Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden championship series after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd prefer in that moment besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts throughout the year.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

The Blue Jays secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
