Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
