Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I stated I won't manage a different club within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I might decide in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. Not a single person will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
