LA Faces Historic Heat Only One Week After Severe Winter Weather.
After enduring significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, LA is now grappling with abnormally hot temperatures for the end of February.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the temperature reached 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, per data from meteorologists. This easily surpasses the prior high for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was recorded in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on forecast charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service stated that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations suggested:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sharp rise in mercury arrives just after a powerful winter storm that battered the state earlier in the week. That event unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, leading to mudslide risks for countless residents.

Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead a cooldown is expected. Temperatures were expected to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by late Friday.
Additional areas that experienced ninety degrees included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to reach the upper eighties.
For the weekend, downtown Los Angeles can see temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown likely for the week ahead.
