Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period like this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
