The network's Leading New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
